Session Date
Lesson Topic
Ayn Rand, "Anthem"
Lesson Outline
Natalie has completed reading the novel and answering all of the study guide questions. We reviewed her answers and discussed why Equality's renaming himself as Prometheus was apt as the name has come to symbolize one who rebels against injustice and the authority of power. We then parsed Ayn Rand's explanation of why the dystopian society evolved in the first place i.e. Rand claims it is due to the worship of the "We" ,instead of the "I". Natalie offered a good critique of Ayn Rand's philosophy suggesting that the author simply did not understand that people can not always solve problems in solitary or individually. As Natalie requested we start our review for the final , I then began reviewing the study guides we have worked on all semester and presenting questions that were on the guide or from prior tests. Natalie indicated the exercise was helpful and that we should continue this process next week which I will do along with presenting some other practice questions. Homework for the next week is to study for the final exam.
