Book 2, Lesson 3 Closed vowel sound exceptions ind, ild, old, olt, ost
Lesson Outline
Danny started the lesson reciting the vowel sounds and their key words. He reviewed the sounds of consonants and digraphs: b, g, k, ck, sh, and f. He reviewed the sounds of welded sounds: ang, ong, ing, ank, unk, and onk. Danny read review words: lamp, land, and bat. He was introduced to the current concept of closed vowel sound exceptions: ind, ild, old, olt, and ost. Danny was introduced to the guide words kind, wild, cold, colt, and host. These words were entered into Danny's notebook. Danny needed a vocabulary work up on the words bind, colt, and bolt. These words were entered into the notebook with a definition, a sentence, and a drawing made by Danny. Danny read a large stack of new words with the new sounds. He got confused only on the word "child" saying, /children/ instead. Danny made that correction. He read sentences on p. 51. Danny did a great job getting back into the routine of studying Wilson. He went on to camp with good humor.
