Limiting Factors -
Rory was asked to define an ecosystem. I reminded him of the descriptions he made last week of four distinct ecosystems, and challenged him to identify the producer, and top consumer for each. We then discussed the carrying capacity for an ecosystem that influence the different populations. The force that limits the growth of a population is called a limiting factor. After some discussion, Rory was challenged to identify the limiting factor for a population of grass, fish, and bears. We identified three main limiting factors: Food and water, Space, and Weather. Homework: be ready for a test on limiting factors and carrying capacity on our next class.

Lesson Comments
When I went to fetch Rory, he was asleep in his room. He finally joined me, but was sleepy. I had to repeatedly wake him up, and repeat the lesson. I had him change chairs (to a less comfortable one), I pushed, and even kicked him to wake up. I let him sleep for a full five minutes to see if he would wake on his own (he did not). After a generous total of 35 minutes, I sent him to his room and ended the class. This is not going to work.
