Environmental Science:
Carrying Capacity -
Rory was challenged with completing an activity about limiting factors and carrying capacity. We explored how limiting factors preclude the size of any population within an ecosystem; this number is the carrying capacity for that population. Rory wrote the definitions of these terms in his science notebook, and gave me examples of each. We then explored how population growth in an ecosystem is graphed; with the line moving steadily upward to show unlimited growth before limiting factors come into play. Once the population size exceeds the carrying capacity, the line takes a turn downward. It oscillates around the carrying capacity from that point onward.
