Lesson Outline
Christopher had made a story board using the characters from the Super Mario video game. He even had a cast of characters board. I suggested that we compose original music. I asked him many questions so as to ascertain the scope of what the scenario might be. Then played music to resemble the character's personality and interactions with other characters. I asked Christopher to make a "Libretto" - story -using his story board and we would compose music to reflect his story line. That seemed to capture his attention. I played different small pieces of music to reflect the personalities and interactions of his story board. This is just another vehicle for teaching the sound of chords reflecting the mood and character of the characters in a story.

Lesson Comments
Christopher had had a "melt down" and was in his room when I came into the school. Spoke to Marcus and later Carl regarding the overall scenario. Finally, Christopher came to music. He had a plate of food in front of him. An uneaten hamburger and french fries. He had not eaten before going out to play. This might of contributed to his depressed state. Noticed that he was lacking a knife and fork. He wouldn't use them. Asked if his mother allowed him to eat with his hands. He said yes. However, we know that students might not accurately reflect what they do at home. Showed him how to hold a knife and fork to cut meat. To take his mind off of his troubles on the playground we decided to do a story using original music to reflect his story board. He seemed very interested. Played several different tunes and he liked what he heard. As him to write a "Libreto" for our next lesson so that we could write an original work of music.
