Lesson Topic
Make a ten to subtract
Lesson Outline
Jonathan's lesson today involved learning the strategy of subtracting and using number bonds and an addend in order to subtract part of it from a teen number to arrive at ten. We used a number path to count back to solve problems, and reviewed which number bonds to use to subtract back from a teen to arrive at ten. Jonathan and I practiced solving problems, including one of his homework problems, to insure he understood how to apply the strategy. Jonathan effectively used his own words to tell how he arrived at his answer in the homework problem, which he correctly solved.

Lesson Comments
Jonathan wanted to call his mother when it was snack time. When asked why, he said he missed her and that he does not want to go to the lunchroom for snack since recess has been taken away. He wanted me to tell Ms. Judie, but I told him we could do so together as we walked towards the lunchroom. I apologize for stirring the pot, but felt I should address Jonathan's concerns. Please bear in mind that I considered taking him to Cal to address, but he clearly felt more comfortable expressing himself when I mentioned your name - so thank you for your attention and action.
