Lesson Topic
Exponential Growth
Lesson Outline
Alexa and I talked about a real-life example of exponential growth. It is actually a comical situation. I am having problems with mildew in the shower grout of one of my bathrooms. I had to explain to Alexa what grout is. This past weekend, I had a relative visiting from out of town. She knew of my "grout battles", and had commented on the problem when she visited a few months ago. On Saturday, she happened to notice the shower tiles again. She told me, "Tori, the grout looks EXPONENTIALLY worse." Great! So, I told Alexa this story, because I think it is comical that someone used a math term to describe my growing issue of mildew in my grout! I drew an exponential graph for Alexa, and reminded her that exponential growth is slow at first, but then steadily and often quickly rises. I joked that I better get my mildewy grout fixed soon, or else my entire bathroom, and maybe even house, would be covered with mold and mildew!

Lesson Comments
By the time Alexa came to class and settled in, we didn't have enough time to do a lesson, so I opted to share my "real life exponential growth" story with her. It gave us a laugh!
