Conversational French - Greetings
Lesson Outline
We actually began today's session playing a noodle game that had been left in Sebastian's classroom by his OT tacher. He wanted to play it very much, explained the rules and we played one fun round prior to beginning today's lesson. I will teach him how to ask a friend to play a game with him in our next session as this would be a great ice breaker when meeting friends in new/foreign countries. Today, we practiced how to say hello, ask how someone is doing, respond in various ways, and say goodbye in an informal register/context in French. I asked Sebastian to repeat the phrases after me and we worked on pronunciation. I also demonstrated how to address different people. I explained that there are three honorifics commonly used in French and they function much the same as "Mr.," "Mrs.," and "Miss" do in American English. Married women are addressed as madame, as are older women, and young and unmarried women are adressed as mademoiselle. We practiced using Sebastian's peers and teachers as examples, as well as 'Madame' Judie. It was a productive and engaging session. It should be noted that Sebastian informed me he is unable to log onto DuoLingo when I inquired about it. I mentioned that mom is going to look into it as we will be incorporating it in future sessions.
