Lesson Topic
Geography and Cardinal Directions/Compass/Cultures of the World
Lesson Outline
Jonathan and I looked at a globe and reviewed the four cardinal directions and their abbreviations. We then listenend to "It's a Small World After All" and discussed the lyrics. We noted that although the world is big and there are many different continents, countries, people and cultures, we all share the same sun and moon, and a smile universally means one is happy. As we identified different continents on the globe, Jonathan was tasked with questions pertaining to directions. He did well on this activity. We then learned what a compass rose was and found the circle on a map showing the principal directions. We also used a compass to find out what directions we were walking in around campus. We finished our session playing a game of Cardinal Direction Simple Simon; Jonathan is clearly a pro at this game and demonstrated a clear understanding of directionality.
