Lesson Topic
Solving word problems
Lesson Outline
Jonathan continued to practice solving differentiated addition and subtraction word problems. He demonstrates a good ability to understand the necessary operations needed to solve the problems and is able to present his answer in 4 ways: number lines, number bonds, equations, and number sentences. Jonathan favors working with equations and adds or subtracts in his head; however, when asked to check his work, he often finds an error he's made in his calculations due to his haste wanting to complete it; therefore reminders remain necessary to improve his accuracy and performance. Today, while working on practice examples, Jonathan said, "I don't even have to read the stories, I just have to look at the numbers in order to solve it." He is confident in his abilities and acquires skills fast, but needs reminders to work slower or to check his work before handing it in.
