Lesson Topic
electrical potential energy and the volt
Lesson Outline
We reviewed the concepts of potential energy and electrical potential energy. We discussed the unit of measurement of the electric potential as the volt. The volt was shown to be an amount of energy/unit of charge ( joules/coulomb). The electric potential difference is commonly referred to a voltage, measured in volts.
The potential difference is the difference in voltage between terminals on a battery. The voltage supplies the energy needed to push electrons through a circuit, and do work (light a bulb).
