Book 2, Lesson 3 Exceptions to welded sounds
Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by reviewing the sounds from the vowel team chart with their keywords. Next, Kellan played Quick Drill in Reverse and practiced the five short vowels; the digraphs, and consonants: sh, g, wh, p, qu, g, and l. Kellan practiced the welded sounds and closed vowel exceptions: old, ost, ild, ind, am, and ank. Kellan used the magnetic tiles to build the review words: bloss, quelt, and hisp. Kellan built the closed vowel exception words: bind, bend, grind, quilt, and mild. Kellan practiced the sight words: front, want, comb, friend, and from using colorful markers on the whiteboard. Following the practice session, Kellan worked on his dictation test for 2.3. He spelled all of the sight words correctly. Kellan got full credit for the real words and the nonsense words that he wrote. Kellan spent the remainder of the period analyzing his test for sounds, punctuation, spelling, and capitalization. He is really improving in spelling and letter formation.
