Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by playing Quick Drill in Reverse.Kellan reviewed the spelling of all the short vowel sounds He reviewed the letters v, ch, w, wh, l, j, b, d, c, ck, and k. Kellan practiced the spelling of the welded sounds and closed vowel exceptions: ong, ing, ost, olt, ind, and ung. Kellan used the magnetic tiles to build the review words: skunk, rind, and cold.Kellan used the magnetic letters to build the 5-sound words: squint, cramp, crust, branch, and craft. He reviewed the concept of digraph blend like: nch in lunch. Kellan built the nonsense words: twend grimp, glest, squomp, and thrasp. He practiced the sight words: said, asked, week, front, half, and want. Kellan wrote these words with colorful markers on the whiteboard. Next, Kellan took the dictation test for this lesson. He wrote five sounds, five real words, five sight words, and three sentences. Kellan had a little trouble with the word "said." This word is new for him. Kellan is making a concerted effort to form his letter from the top down. This will help him in writing and directionality in reading. Kellan did most of the analysis of his work using a turquoise pen. He remembered how to underline blends, box welded sounds, mark up closed vowel exceptions. Kellan circled sight words and did correct capitalization and punctuation. Kellan is ready to move on to the next lesson 2.5 next week.
