Book 2, Lesson 5 Three letter blends
Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by doing the analysis of his last sentence from dictation. He did it without any prompting. He knows that he must underline the first letter of a sentence to show that it is always capitalized. He knows that he must circle the punctuation. He circled all the sight words and did the markups on all the words. Next, Kellan read the story Dan and Tom. Kellan read the story about how the two boys went to the crest of a hill to have their lunch. Kellan drew a picture and made cartoon characters for the two buys in the story. He drew the cartoon dog which Dan ran after. Kellan learned the vocabulary words: crest and pop (when it means "soda.") Kellan paraphrased the story and could answer comprehension questions. Next, Kellan started a new lesson on 2.5. He drilled all the vowels and their keywords. Kellan reviewed the consonants and digraphs: sh, v, y,g, s, and f. He reviewed the welded sounds and closed vowel exceptions: ong, olt, ing, ost, ild, ang, am, and unk. Kellan reviewed the five letter words by reading: crisp, branch, and plants from the magnetic letters. Kellan answered questions about blends, digraph blends, and baseword and suffix. He needed review on baseword and suffix to call it to mind. Kellan was introduced to words with three-letter blends: Kellan read the words: strap, script, splash, string, and spring from the magnetic letters. The new sound pattern was entered into the notebook. Next, Kellan played Fun in the Snow to review words from the 2.5 list. Kellan read both real words and nonsense words. Tomorrow we will continue this new lesson.
