Book 2, Lesson 5 Three letter blends
Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by playing Quick Drill in Reverse. He practiced spelling all the short vowel sounds. Kellan practiced the digraphs and consonants: sh, g, f, m, y, z, k, and ch. He practiced the welded sounds and closed vowel exceptions: ong, olt, ost, ild, ing, and unk. Kellan built three review words with magnetic letters: stuts, flunks, scalp. Kellan built the new words: splash, string, scrub, spring, and strong. Kellan could recognize a welded sound. Kellan could name the three letter blends. Kellan practiced the sight words: walk, half, front, friend, said, and asked using colorful markers on the whiteboard. Next, Kellan took his dictation test. He wrote five sounds, five real words, five nonsense words, and five sight words. Kellan wrote three sentences. Next, Kellan did the analysis on these words and sentences. Kellan missed the words "said" and "stuff" on this test. He reviewed how to spell the sight word and Kellan reviewed the rules for adding a bonus letter "f" at the end of a one-syllable word. Kellan reviewed all his sentences. He did all the correct markups indicating his knowledge of capitalization, punctuation, spelling sight words, three-letter blends, welded sounds and two-letter blends. Kellan read his sentences back to me and spelled words aloud as required.
