Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by reciting all of the vowel teams and their keywords. Next, Kellan recited all of the vowels with keywords. He recited the digraphs and consonants: qu, f, j, t, c, m, n, h, and ck. Kellan practiced the welded sounds and closed vowel exceptions: an, ind, old, ild, ost, olt, ink, and onk. Kellan practiced marking up the words: sold, hang, mild, most, and jolt. Kellan reviewed his lessons on baseword and suffix, words with bonus letters, closed vowel exception words, welded sound words, nonsense words, three letter blend words, digraph blend words, two-letter blend words. Kellan had a stack of words from Book 2 which were mixed including all of the above constructions. His job was to survey the categories and find two or three categories where the word could fit. For example, Kellan had the word "lunch." He had to find the category that included a digraph blend. Kellan worked hard on this assignment. We will continue on Wednesday to get him ready for his test on Book 2.

Kellan was challenged today to be able to call to mind all of the lessons from Book 2. It took Kellan a good amount of trial and error and reteaching to be able to sort the words correctly. This is a higher-level activity than anything he has done so far. We will practice until Kellan feels ready for the test on Book 2.
