Lesson Topic
Book 3, Lesson 1 two-syllable words
Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson today with a review of the letters, sounds, and keywords of the vowel team. Next, Kellan took dictation of three sentences from 3.1. After completing the sentences, he did the analysis that is required. Kellan does this exercise on his own. He needs very little prompting. He knows that he underlines the first letter of a sentence and circles the punctuation at the end. He circled all the sight words. He scooped two-syllable words; marked up the vowels; starred the bonus letters. Kellan read the sentences back to me and spelled the two-syllable words aloud when I covered up the word. Kellan then read the story about Kevin and Justin. Kellan wanted to draw the two characters while going through the story. He was able to paraphrase the story and was able to tell me the problem of the story. At the end of the lesson, I read a chapter from Because of Winn Dixie to Kellan. It is about the part where Opal asks the preacher to tell her ten things about her mother because she was ten years old.

Lesson Comments
Kellan is really getting good at dictation and spelling. He showed me three comic books. I read all of them with him and helped him make small corrections and used the opportunity for a lesson on "you're." He is spelling many difficult words independently.
