Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by playing Quick Drill in Reverse. He practiced the sounds and letters for a, e, i, o, u, and schwa. Kellan practiced keywords and sounds for: sh, th, qu, g, f, x, y, and z. Kellan practiced the welded sounds: olt, ind, ost, ang, nk, ank. Next, Kellan marked up the words strupt, strimp, and sprund. At first, Kellan tried to scoop the word into two syllables. This activity gives Kellan a chance to critically apply his skills and not expect that all exercises will be alike. Next, Kellan marked up and scooped words into syllables: findid, exvim, comvig, poplmeg, and casbit. Kellan practiced the sight words "listen" and "often" using the whiteboard. We talked about the small word "list" in "listen" to help us remember to put the "t" in the word. Kellan took his dictation test by writing five sounds, five real words, five nonsense words, five sight words, and three sentences. Kellan will do the analysis at our next class together.

Kellan will be finishing 3.1 and starting 3.2 when we get back after spring break. I hope that Kellan will end the year on Book 4, Lesson 2. That is a good pace for the year.
