Andrew and I worked to get to know each other on our first session working together.
He explained to me some of frustrations with reading, and his preferences. He expressed his natural inclination toward articles and shorter written pieces. He communicated the topics that he currently finds most engaging (including Japanese, Black Holes, Sports, Art, and recently Star Wars).

Andrew audibly moaned when I entered the class with his current English novel.
I brought up the book on 3 different occasions and he went into full evasive mode.
Rather than force the issue, I continued to build the relationship and look for genuine areas of interest in hopes of pursuing longterm progress over a short-term victory.
