Lesson Topic
The Role of Director
Lesson Outline
Today we took an in-depth look at the role of a film director in making movies. An introduction through The New York Times Director's Round Table, we began a discussion about the role of director and Sebastian's aspirations as a filmmaker. Since, Sebastian has an ease of editing, acting, writing and directing his films, he also has a very specific vision for the way his films are created. We are working on his ability to collaborate with a crew of people and still maintain his sense of accomplishment in the filmmaking process. His ideas run in a linear way, one movie idea in front of the next, with some experimentation in character action. He has been exploring stunts in collaboration with other students to encourage a sense of play and improvisation in the interpretation of his script notes and dialogue. Shooting these segments has allowed him to imagine other possible scenarios to his script blueprint.
