Lesson Outline
Kellan started his lesson by doing the analysis of his last dictation test. Kellan got 5/5 on sounds, 5/5 on real words, 5/5 on nonsense words, and 4/5 on sight words. Kellan practiced the word he missed which was "buffet" Next, Kellan worked on all the sentences. He underlined the first letter of the sentence, circled the punctuation at the end. Kellan scooped all multi-syllabic words and marked up the vowels, digraphs, blends, and welded sounds. Kellan circled the sight words. He did well on these sentences. Next, Kellan read The Transcripts. This reading included a discussion about Congress. Kellan was introduced to the idea of the Legislative Branch of government. Kellan learned that there are 50 states in the U.S. and that each state has two representatives to the Senate. Kellan learned about the House of Representatives and how the number of representatives from each state differs according to the population. We commented that Florida is the third most populated state and has 27 representatives, but that a small state like Rhode Island has only three representatives. Kellan discussed the vocabulary word "transcript" to mean the written document that Congress generates after it has made some important legal decision that will affect the country. We discussed how the transcript is made public through the newspaper and other media. Next, Kellan began his review session for the Book 3 Test. He practiced all the vowels, the consonants: g, b, k, r, s, and l. He practiced the welded sounds: olt, ind, unk, ank, onk, and am. Kellan read the words: catnip, disrupt, district, establish, and blended. These were review words from Book 3. Kellan read a large stack of words from Book 3 and sorted them according to the /kt/ ending, three-syllables, or baseword and suffix. Next, Kellan played Quick Drill in Reverse. He practiced: a,e,i,o,u and schwa. Kellan practiced: g,f,m,k,and z. He practiced ang, ost, ind, am, ing, and ind. Kellan will begin testing on Wednesday.
