Lesson Topic
Florida History
Lesson Outline
Ben reviewed historical facts about Florida which covered material about the main tribes and the first Europeans to discover the area. Ben also viewed a video examining the relationship between Britain and Spain, which covered the Treaty of Paris. The main take-away was that the treaty ended the Revolutionary War between Great Britain and the United States which recognized American independence, Spain regained control of Florida, and borders were established for the new nation. At the conclusion of the session, I reiterated the main points in efforts to facilitate Ben's recall skills and consolidate gains.

Lesson Comments
A bit of time was wasted when Ben refused to work on a laptop that he said was ancient. He explained why, and I had to procure another laptop for him because he refused to watch the clip on anything "that old." It can be quite challenging working with him, especially when he says he is tired, stressed, or refuses to work on the lesson planned because he does not care for the subject or topic. He does not sugar-coat his true feelings and is unaware when his words may be harsh; however we usually work out a compromise that is mutually advantageous - but it often takes work, flexibility, and concessions on the teacher's part.
