Life in the Colonies
Lesson Outline
This class was an introduction to Chap. 4, "The Colonies Grow:" 1607 - 1770. By the 1700s, there were 250,000 people living in the colonies and this number grew to 2.5 million by the mid 1770s. There were about 690,000 Europeans, 278,000 Africans and 2,500 Jewish immigrants living in the colonies by 1775. A quick overview (details will be in HW reading) was presented on lifestyles in New England, the Middle & Southern colonies. Bella will also read about triangular trade, the transport of slaves and the Middle Passage. We will discuss more about the Middle Passage and life for African Americans in colonial America on Wednesday.
