Bio Poem
Lesson Outline
I introduced Jaydn to a Bio-Poem today. We discussed how it can be used as a creative way to introduce oneself to others, and that it follows a prescribed template. Jaydn was shown a sample and I shared the Bio-Poems created by her brothers, Matthew and Andrew, which she found interesting. Jaydn was interested and amenable to making a Bio-Poem and was reflective in her choice of the adjectives used to describe herself. She responded to all the prompts with consideration and I read the poem back to her upon completion. She had no edits and was pleased with the way it turned out. I offered to type it and email it to her when done. This proved to be an interesting and engaging activity, and Jaydn responded with openness and candor. We finished the session with a discussion about animal rights, and I read Jaydn an article about SeaWorld and its treatment of Orcas, tying in the thirteenth amendment as justification for the side of animal activists. We exchanged many ideas on both sides of a debate about the issue - advocating for the rights of animals and a counter argument defending peoples' rights. While aligned in our opinions, we discussed both sides with objectivity and consideration. Jaydn was able to defend her viewpoint clearly and offered valid arguments to defend her point of view.
