We discussed educational video games and their function and value in education. Cabo made a personal connection to the video game Portal, describing it as a physics game that consists of a series of puzzles that must be solved creatively using/shooting a portal gun. We discussed how educational video games play a significant role in developing teachers' lesson plans and reviewed findings that suggest that video games can help children develop social skills that support their academic achievement. When asked to think of why he thinks they are so successful, Cabo mentioned that they allow learners to take an active role in learning and hold their attention. We agreed the games develop technological skills that will be useful not just for their academic careers, but later for the professional path they choose.
