He read about the Antikythera mechanism, an artifact kept in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens, Greece. Sponge divers found it in 1900 near the island of Symi in the Aegean Sea. It is one of many artifacts divers found in the ancient Antikythera shipwreck, dating back to 65 B.C. Mercer spends the remainder of class working on a class project. Mercer was on task.
