Lesson Topic
The Roaring Twenties
Lesson Outline
We began to explore the 1920s today. It was a busy decade for a now post-war, prosperous America. The U.S. population shifted to live in or around cities. The 18th amendment (Prohibition) and 19th (right to vote for women) amendments, ratified in 1919, defined the 1920s. Women finally had the right to vote and were feeling more independent in U.S. society. Their fashion and attitudes began to change. The "flappers" of this decade exemplify a new look for women. We also looked at the Jazz Age, Harlem Renaissance, Prohibition, the rise of organized crime and the reasons for the stock market crash of 1929.
