Following two part written instructions/Complete sentence structure.
Lesson Outline
Mercer was presented with a writing activity involving emoji emotions. We first learned that the word "emoji" combines two Japanese words, "e (picture) and "moji" (character). Mercer commented that he uses them on occasion but did not know the meaning of the word. He accessed prior information and knew that emojis are commonly used in electronic communications to add expression and emotion. He was tasked with looking at 8 emojis, to then write the emotion that he saw, and describe a time when he's felt the emotion. At first, Mercer only identified the emotion as he interpreted it. I asked him to reread the instructions and complete the assignment in accordance with specific directives. When focused, Mercer works independently and, despite initial resistance, completed all requirements, responding in well-constructed sentences to communicate clearly.
