Writer's block
Lesson Outline
Jayne has taken a break from her creative writing, saying she has writer's block and has run out of ideas. We researched the topic and discussed possible reasons for its occurrence, including timing, fear, and perfectionism; Jayne ruled out fear, but considered the others as possibilities. We then researched different strategies researchers have suggested to overcome writer's block, including one method, called the Pomodoro technique that resonated with Jayne. This method breaks work into time-blocks, dividing tasks into short segments, and it recommends that one eat between them (Jayne applauded this approach). Each pomodoro should last approximately 25 minutes, and after four, it is suggested that one take a five-minute break. We agreed that Jayne should break for a while, perhaps until such a time when she is feeling more refreshed and motivated t resume her writing.
