Unit 7: The Dynamic Earth
Lesson Outline
Lesson 2 Plate Tectonics – We learned that when two continental plates collide rock folds and breaks forming mountain ranges and causing earthquakes too. When two oceanic plates collide the denser plate subducts which causes volcanism forming volcanic islands. Divergent tectonic plate boundaries lower pressure as plates move apart and mantle material melts and rises causing eruptions on the surface forming new crust. Shallow earthquakes occur at these boundaries. Transformed plate boundaries slide past each other and can occur perpendicularly to divergent boundaries.
Assignment: Add types of plate boundaries to our science notebook.
