Lesson Topic
How May a Dynasty Begin?
Lesson Outline
Throughout history, most dynasties have been established through combat led by fierce conquerors. Those in the areas about to be invaded may choose to fight the invasion or to swear fealty (loyalty) to a new leader. It all depends on the circumstances. Has life been good for them under their past and current rulers or may their lives improve under the new conqueror? We have seen this happen throughout world history, across continents and cultures. In our own country, 246 years ago, people had to decide if it was better to remain loyal to Great Britain or to support the growing independence movement. One of the keys competent conquerors share throughout history is that once they have conquered foes, they also work on uniting their subjects (people). If just, these conquerors are memorialized and remembered for establishing a new empire, giving it a new identity and imposing changes. The majority of which are good for the society. Long after they're gone, many conquerors throughout history are remembered for their deed and their rule. If a conqueror is abusive or subjugates people, he/she will not have the support of the masses.
