Discuss the classical Arrhenius chemical definition of an acid, a compound which will dissociate into hydrogen ions.
Review first 5 alkane compounds.
Draw the structural formula for the carboxyl group, COOH, which gives a hydrocarbon acidic properties.
Outline the nomenclature steps.
Sketch the first 3 acids in the alkane series, methanoic, ethanoic, and propanoic.
Discuss the official names, the classical names, and the common names.
