Lesson Outline
We studied the function and impact of the first person narrative by discussing how the diary form of narrative gives the reader insight into the most personal thoughts and feelings of the narrator and creates empathy . We then examined the first pages and noted the introduction of certain themes such as the relationship between happiness and conformity and the ethics of scientific /medical procedures that suggest happiness can be scientifically achieved . In this regard, we discussed whether intelligence is a critical element of happiness and why people have plastic surgery notwithstanding the risks of poor outcomes.
