Lesson Outline
Lena and I collaboratively read Act II from 'A Midsummer Night's Dream,' by William Shakespeare. Lena read with excellent inflection, articulation, and added dramatic flair for getting into character; she assumed the role of the Fairy in the play. We discussed the setting, place, main characters and events. We also discussed famous quotes from the book. Lena was offered concrete examples to better help her understand the meanings of the quotes as they represented more abstract concepts. The three quotes analyzed were: 'Though she be but little, she is fierce;" "The course of true love never did run smooth;" and "Lord, what fools these mortals be." Today's vocabulary included the terms, mortal and obstacles, the latter of which Lena connected to an obstacle course. Lena also read Chapter 10 in the novel, 'Bridge to Terabithia.' (Pages 141 - 154). She read fluently and with a great deal of expression. We discussed the main theme of Paterson's book, friendship, and reviewed vocabulary. Lena and I shared an interesting and productive session.
