Lesson Outline
Based on the text, I discussed the term 'allusion" and we explored the story's reference to Eve,knowledge, and evil. Thematically, we then explored what type of knowledge the author condemns . Jaydn discussed the theme of unnatural or scientifically manipulated knowledge, such as Charlie has been given, as morally questionable .We mentioned eugenics in this context. Next, we noted how Charlie's intelligence has not made him happy but ,to the contrary, has made him more lonely and alienated. Given this development, we examined Charlie's desire to "improve mankind" by offering the technology for others who are mentally impaired. Jaydn did well noting how Charlie lacks sensitivity and common sense despite his 200 IQ ,as he fails to recognize that artificially induced intelligence will only bring pain and isolation. Jaydn then worked on answering some theme and plot study guide questions.
