An Introduction to the Monroe Doctrine
Lesson Outline
Following the War of 1812, James Monroe, the 5th U.S. president issued the Monroe Doctrine. We used maps to visualize what this looked like on the globe. At its time in 1823, it didn't garner much attention. But as the years have progressed, this presidential edict has become a cornerstone of U.S. law and foreign policy. We will take a closer look at the Monroe Doctrine during our 3rd period class today.
