Christianity's Spread to the Americas & Asia/Review LEQ HW
Lesson Outline
Today we discussed the spread of Christianity to Spanish America from 1500 - 1700. China's encounter was different - between 1500 - 1700, Jesuits in China took specific aim at elites. The Jesuits respected education and practiced Christian principles. Therefore, they respected Chinese culture. While a small % of elites converted to Christianity, China retained it's religious traditions. By 1715 the Chinese Emperor forbade Westerners from spreading their religion in China. This was a very different experience from the violent encounters between the Spanish and Native Americans. We then reviewed Joshua's long essay question (LEQ) HW. His essay and the historical facts he used are solid. He needed a bit more in his introduction as well as some more detail in his response. We reviewed his response on AP Central. Joshua then evaluated some of the suggestions AP Central has for a strong response and he observed some additional material that could have been included to strengthen his response.
