Lesson Outline
We discussed Buck's returning to his more primitive state as he makes his first kills, first a rabbit and finally of the lead dog ,Spitz. We analyzed Londons' descriptive passages highlighting both Buck's atavistic tendencies and his Naturalist literary bent. Jaydn actively participated in class discussion on these areas and on Londons' passage comparing Man's desire to hunt to Buck's innate desire to kill. We further engaged in an interesting discussion on London's explanation of happiness or "ecstasy" as occurring when one totally loses himself in an activity or pursuit. Last, we reviewed Jaydn's study guide answers to chapter 3.
