Lesson Outline
Outline and discuss the 5 basic characteristics of populations. These will include size, density, distribution, sex ratio, and age structure.
Define each characteristic, list and discuss factors within each one which will affect the population. Examine a series of diagrams which will aid in understanding each factor.
Discuss how the characteristics do not exist alone, but hypothesis regarding population growth are determined from an examination of many characteristics and how they intergrate and interact with each other.
Define, list, and discuss limiting factors, density dependent factors, and the carrying capacity of an ecosytem.
