Solving Systems of Linear Equations by Elimination – We learned to solve systems of equations using elimination. We followed these steps:

1. Write the system so equations are in the same form.
2. Add or subtract equations to ELIMINATE one variable; then solve.
3. Substitute the value from step 2 into one of the original equations.
4. Write solution as an ordered pair (x, y).
5. CHECK RESULT in both original equations.

Then we practiced setting up and solving word problems with elimination to prepare for a test.
