Jaydn does not visually attend her history classes. Dr. Pat was gracious to come to the beginning of our 3rd period class today. Jaydn was not visible and she immediately became defensive when she saw us both. Dr. Pat reminded Jaydn that she must turn on her camera for ALL of her classes. Instead of doing that, Jaydn said she needed to put us on hold. While that happened, I showed Dr. Pat that Jaydn had symbol that showed Jaydn had muted herself, as well. Jaydn came back online and said she could hear us "talking about her." I responded that I was merely showing Dr. Pat the mute symbol on the screen. There was NOTHING inappropriate for Jaydn to hear and we reminded her that Dr. Pat checks in with all teachers and remote students on a regular basis. Jaydn said we were causing her to "have a panic attack" and that she was hanging up to talk with her mom and she did just that - hung up on what should have been a double period of history class today. Ironically, mom was informed several weeks ago that Jaydn is not visible for any of our history classes when Andrew called his mom to ask her a question, had her on speaker phone and told her I was present. Mom asked me if Jaydn was using her camera and I told her she does not. Since sharing that with Jaydn's mom, nothing has changed. What concerns me is that I believe Jaydn mutes class in addition to not being visible on screen. Whenever I ask her a question or need her to respond to something, I need to say her name several times before I get an audio response of, "Yes?" From there, it seems that Jaydn has tuned out the lesson because she can't respond to the topic being remotely taught. The few times I have seen Jaydn on line, it also appears that she has more than one monitor...or something else that she is viewing instead of our online class. We have a new schedule where we have class daily and 2X on Mon., Wed., Fri. On Wed., our class is a double/consecutive (periods 3 & 4) class. Dr. Pat brought Nicole into the classroom to convey what had happened after Jaydn hung up from class. I conveyed to both Dr. Pat and Nicole not only is there no visual for Jaydn, it seems likely (as I can't see her) that she is muting some of our classes, as well.
