Atticus studied and discussed daily Greek life. He made notations of how different city-states distrusted one another which created a disconnect throughout Ancient Greece. This made him draw the conclusion that Ancient Greece had independent city-states instead of one united nation. He compared life in Athens to life in Sparta.
