Lesson Topic
Comparison of societies - Igbo and American
Lesson Outline
I afforded Ben guided supports to encourage him to reflect and compare the Nigerian Igbo and American societies. I began this process by asking that he reflect on the structure of the Igbo society, as it is patriarchal, which prompted Ben to compare and contrast it with American society. I also queried him on some of the other ways to compare the societies - such as by their economy, daily life, their value-system, their belief in polytheism, etc. Although Ben worked slowly and requested even more information that was provided in the intentionally broad parameters of the assignment, he worked deliberately. I encouraged him to continue to reflect on the questions and to share his thoughts in response to the questions and to then communicate it via speech-to-text. I was pleased with today's progress in our morning class and afforded Ben reinforcement in the form of verbal praise, to consolidate gains, compliance, and strengthen motivation.

Lesson Comments
After a slow start and a few procrastinating delays, I researched the novel 'Things Fall Apart,' and provided Ben with ideas and prompts to initiate purposeful work on his project. I then shared my efforts, ideas, and notes with Delaina who was to work with Ben next. Ben asked me to remain with him (he did not know who Delaina was), but I described her and reinforced his work, and he agreed to continue working on the project with her. I understand he completed it when I subsequently followed up.
