Lesson Outline
We reviewed Ben’s test from yesterday. Unfortunately he got a 43%. The test had 7 questions and he left 3 completely blank (wrote I forgot). We discussed each problem to clarify misunderstandings. To give Ben the opportunity to improve his grade, he has the option to Re-do each problem correctly for half the credit back (this means he can improve his grade to a 72%). I showed him in his notes where we did similar problems. I showed him how to use his notes as a guideline for help if he’s stuck. I know we aren’t supposed to give Ben homework, but I really want to see if he can do those problems, on his own, still using his notes for guidance. He’s fully capable, it’s just a matter of the effort on his part. He has until Monday to make the corrections.
After the test, we returned to the lesson we started yesterday on slope. We reviewed what positive, negative, and zero slopes look like. Then I had him consider the slope of a vertical line. Through calculation, we determined it is Undefined. Then we did an activity using the “I do-We do-You do” method, to calculate the rise and run given a graph. We started to discuss the slope formula, but will go into more detail tomorrow.

Lesson Comments
I reaaalllly hope Ben takes initiative to make his test corrections. I gave him all the tools he needs. I wrote a remind for him on his desk and on his white board, so “I forgot” cannot be an excuse.
This next section, Ben is picking up easily, so I’m hopeful he will be more motivated to learn.
