I asked Liam to read it to note any changes or corrections. Liam spotted a spelling error in one of the character's names. As he read, I noted and explained the grammar used and queried him on ways to make the details connect to one another seamlessly. I introduced Liam to the term 'transitional phrases' and explained it as words or phrases used to link sentences together smoothly and highlight how ideas relate to one another; I also offered examples to help him connect the descriptions of the characters in a more fluent manner. Liam was asked to embellish on a few of his descriptions and to vary the use of words to make his story more interesting. We made a list of synonyms for some of his word choices before adjourning for recess.
