List and discuss the general characteristics of aquatic biomes. Include salinity, depth and water flow. Introduce the 2 broad categories of aquatic biomes, fresh water and marine (salt water). Discuss fresh water biomes as low salinity biomes. Introduce the effect flow has on the plants which can grow in these biomes, and where they can grow. Explain how sediment will settle where two rivers or streams combine, and why. Discuss the oxygenation of turbulent water and the effect on the species of fish which can live there. Introduce lakes and ponds. Discuss the different zones of water beginning with the littoral, limnetic, profundal and benthic zones. Discuss the growth of plants, oxygen concentration, and available radiant energy
