Lesson Outline
Discuss speciation and the pace of evolution. This will include a discussion of allopatric and sympatric speciation. Examine how allopatric occurs with geographic isolation, and the causes of geographic isolation. Indicate how natural selection will favor different adaptations on each side of the geographic isolation, resulting in a new specie.
Compare it to sympatric speciation, which results from polyploidy and the ability of only those organisms exhibiting the extra chromosmes will produce viable offspring, creating a new species.
