Today's lesson examined covered identifying expressions of culture and how they help us learn about a culture. We discussed dance, music, visual arts, literature, and food as important expressions of culture. We read that art can also include forms of personal expression of worship and entertainment, as well as ways of retelling and preserving a culture's history. We discussed how history shapes how culture groups view the world, how expressions of culture often honor the heroes and heroines who brought about successes in a culture's history, and how cultural holidays often mark important events or heroes and enable people to remember and celebrate their heritage.We ended our session reading about customs and their importance as an important outward display of culture. Chris was interested to read about some examples of customs in other cultures.
