Lesson Outline
At the beginning of class, we looked over a study guide I had prepared for an upcoming test Jack will be given on Thursday about state, local and tribal governments. Jack's responses to queries indicated a solid understanding of the information we've covered. He volunteered that he also knows a lot about government and current events because his dad watches the news a lot. I then introduced the topic of heroes and explained heroes as people who make the world better for other people. We discussed how heroes help communities. Jack was encouraged to reflect on some people he considers his everyday heroes. We discussed that history is filled with heroes - men and women who fought for the freedoms we enjoy every day and listed some of the freedoms. This lesson served as a precursor to continuing our study of American heroes since the story of their lives can afford us a better understanding of how people solve problems and create positive changes in their communities and the world.
