Landmarks and Geography
Lesson Outline
What a fun and productive day we had examining and discussing the different flags and landmarks of the world using 2 different sets of flash cards. The exercises afforded us opportunities to compare and contrast different flags, note similarities and differences, and identify continents, countries, and landmarks on the world map and globe. Luke enthusiastically showed me Mount Rushmore in South Dakota on his globe when we came across it on a flashcard. When discussing landmarks, for example, Luke immediately recognized the Statue of Liberty - in New York, "where I live a lot of the time," and the Eiffel Tower, in Paris, where his nanny lives. When shown the White House, Luke said "grandpa lived there." Luke was very interested in finding out what the landmarks represented and where they were located. It was an awesome way to bridge his interest into our geography lesson, utilizing the 36 flag and 36 landmark flashcards available as a launchpad into a productive and fun Friday learning session.
